According to the Notice of the General Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on Announcement of the List of 2018 Core Breeding Farms as well as Changing of Names and Canceling the Qualifications of Some National Core Breeding Farms, Zigong Dekon Animal Husbandry Co., Ltd. was selected as the National Pig Core Breeding Farm. It is the only breeding enterprise in Sichuan Province among the 9 listed enterprises that was selected as the National Pig Core Breeding Farm.
List of National Pig Core Breeding Farms Selected in 2018
Zigong Dekon Livestock Co., Ltd., which was selected as the national pig core breeding farm this time, was established in April 2011 and is a subsidiary of Dekon Group. On July 15, 2013, Dekon introduced excellent purebred pigs from Canadian FAST company to form the company's core breeding herd. It achieved zero casualties in breeding pigs during the introduction process, creating an industry legend.
In 2014, Dekon obtained the Production and Operation License for Breeding Livestock and Poultry; in 2015, it became a member of the National Pig Joint Breeding Cooperation Group.
On October 13, 2018, experts and scholars including Yang Hongjie, Director of the Animal Husbandry Development Department of the National Animal Husbandry Station, Xu Xu, Director of the Sichuan Animal Husbandry Station, Professor Zhang Qin, Animal Genetics and Breeding Scientist from China Agricultural University, Professor Li Xuewei, Animal Genetics and Breeding Scientist, Professor Ding Xiangdong from China Agricultural University, and Professor Zhu Li from Sichuan Agricultural University visited the Jianshan Core Farm in Zigong for site acceptance work.

Dekon's being included in the national pig core breeding farms is the result of its possession of advanced breeding facilities, strong breeding expert team, excellent population breeding system, and scientific and standardized breeding plans.
It is reported that since the introduction of breeding pigs from Canada, after years of careful breeding, Dekon's breeding pigs have distinctive characteristics of being "abundant, fast, good, economic, and strong", making them more suitable for local breeding. Among them, the total number of pig production of yorker sow can reach 15.6, with 146.8 days of 100KG average day-age. At the same time, it has successfully overcome the vicious cycle of "degradation of introduced breeding pigs" in China, which is of great strategic significance for improving the production performance of China's breeding pigs, gradually narrowing the gap with developed countries, and changing the situation of China's long-term dependence on foreign countries for excellent breeding pigs.
Yao Hailong, President of the Pig Business Division of Dekon Group, stated that being selected as the "National Pig Core Breeding Farm" is not only an honor but also a responsibility. The group will increase its investment in manpower and material resources, cooperate with relevant national departments, and do a good job in genetic improvement of pigs to provide better quality breeding pigs for farmers.
